The safest picks when you are unsure
Unisex, daily-wearable, low-risk families from the real line-up, for when you genuinely cannot ask first.
Safe is not boring
There is a fear that runs under every perfume gift: what if it's wrong for them. Too heavy, too sweet, too loud for their life. It stops people mid-purchase more often than price does.
But "safe" does not mean characterless. It means built to sit well on almost anyone, in almost any weather, without asking anything of the wearer first. Monzzaro has a real shortlist for exactly this brief.
The unisex anchors
Midsea Murmur is the house's most restrained composition, a fresh, marine opening that settles into something warmer and woodier over the day. It is composed pure unisex, wears at the office as easily as it wears at dinner, and asks nothing of the climate around it. If you know nothing else about the person, this is where to start.
Divine Dilemma opens brighter (Calabrian bergamot and sweet orange up front) and lands on a soft amber musk. Also pure unisex, also built for daily wear rather than a single occasion. It reads warmer and more sociable than Midsea Murmur without tipping into anything a nervous giftee would find too much.
Saharan Spice, from La Collezione Cristallo, is the safest pick outside Epos: a dry, spicy woody scent, fully unisex, moderate in loudness, built to work from a mild day into a winter evening. It has none of the sweetness that can misfire on a gift.
For a male colleague or an older relative
If the giftee is a man you know only through work or family occasions, Crown Cardinal is worth a second look. It opens fruity and citrus-led before settling into a spiced oud. Masculine-leaning but still built for a formal room, not a nightclub. It is a step bolder than the pure-unisex picks above, but it stays inside the bounds of a gift you can hand to someone you have only met a handful of times.
The genuinely fail-safe option
If even those feel like a gamble, stop choosing a single bottle. A 20ml, from ₹1,379, signals thought without demanding commitment on their part. Better still, hand over the Discovery Set at ₹1,949: six 5ml perfumes, each a different family, so the choice becomes theirs instead of yours. It is also the one Epos piece that ships today: the full bottles are on preorder for mid-November 2026.
That is the real safety net: not picking the safest single scent, but removing the need to pick one at all. Nobody has ever been offended by being handed six options and asked which one feels like them.
