Most oud is a winter argument
Most oud is a winter argument. It is heavy, it is sweet, and in Indian heat it turns into something you apologise for by noon.
Oud of the Ocean was composed to solve exactly that. It is an oud that behaves in humidity: cool at the opening, serious underneath, and wearable in a Mumbai August as readily as a Delhi December. It is the bridge between fresh and oud, and it is the signature of the collection.
How it wears
This is a classic perfume: top, heart, base, in that order. There is no turn, no second identity, no mechanism. La Collezione Oud is composed the old way, and the craft is in proportion rather than in a trick.
It opens cool and washed. Saffron gives the top an immediate richness. Saffron is what tells you this is a serious oud and not a fresh scent wearing a costume. Mint cuts through it with real coldness, and marine notes carry the salt air. Between them you get the moment after rain has stopped, when the air is clean and there is still salt hanging in it.
The heart softens and steadies. Rose and geranium bring a restrained floral warmth, with sandalwood arriving early to begin the descent into wood. Nothing here shouts; the heart's job is to hand the freshness over to the depth without a seam.
The base is where it deepens, and it keeps deepening. Oud, tobacco and musk, over vetiver and moss: dry, dark, resinous, with the tobacco giving it a lived-in warmth and the moss keeping it earthy. It stays close to the skin rather than filling a corridor, which is what makes it wearable for work rather than only for evenings.
Who it's for
It is for the person who wants one real oud that does not restrict itself to December. All-weather, leaning evening: office to dinner without a change of shirt. It is fully unisex (the marine top keeps it fresh, the oud base keeps it serious) and it is the most accessible genuine oud the house makes.
It is not a loud perfume. If you want an oud the room notices before you have sat down, its sibling Oud of the Storm is the one to look at. It is also not a gym scent and never will be. And if you dislike oud itself (if the dry, resinous, slightly barnyard character is not for you), the marine opening will not save it, because the oud arrives and stays.
