Two sprays, then stop

At a cousin's mehendi last winter, a guest walked in wearing what felt like a fourth spray too many. Heads turned, but not the way she wanted. The lesson was not "wear less perfume." It was that the right number of sprays depends on where you are standing, not on how much you like the bottle.

Reading the room

Eau de parfum, the concentration behind Monzzaro's compositions, is built to carry the day on two to four sprays for most people, on pulse points only. Indoors, under office AC, air is still and cool, so scent sits close and travels less. Two sprays fill that space without shouting. Outdoors, at an evening event with more air movement, three or four sit closer to right.

Season changes the arithmetic

Heat opens a perfume faster and pushes it wider. A hot, humid afternoon reads louder off the same two sprays than a dry winter evening does. Monsoon humidity thickens the air itself, which is part of why a scent that felt light in March can suddenly feel heavier in July. But that same humidity traps sweat against the skin, so ease off half a spray during the wettest weeks and let your nose, not habit, decide.

Winter weddings pull the other way. Cold, dry air holds scent close to the skin and mutes projection. Exactly why a fuller, heavier composition earns its place at a December function in a way it wouldn't in April.

The test that actually works

Spray, wait ten minutes, and stand at arm's length from someone you trust. If you cannot smell it on yourself after an hour but they still can when they lean in, you got the dose right. If you can still smell it without trying, you likely overdid it, not because more is wrong, but because nose fatigue means you've stopped being able to judge it, and the room hasn't.
